Accessibility in Portage Parks
Portage Park District strives to ensure that all citizens are able to enjoy parks, trails, and programs. In 2020, our staff partnered with The Autism Society of Greater Akron to participate in training to assist visitors who may have autism or other developmental disabilities to develop positive park experiences for all. This experience was the result of funding through the United Way of Portage County. Our continued partnership includes partner events, additional insight and training. Portage Park District has also created social stories, which give park visitors a look at the park, amenities, and what to expect before their visit.
