One of the Park District’s goals is to provide opportunities for a variety of recreational activities, such as wildlife watching, biking, hiking, picnicking and others, which do not negatively affect conserved resources. A popular activity is geocaching, which the Park District will permit with prior written permission.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. There are several caches already located in Portage Parks, and they can be found at GeoCaching.com.

Read the Park District’s geocaching policy and download the application form for new caches here.
