Portage County Recorder’s Office Remains Open During Statewide Lockdown
Lori Calcei, the Portage County Recorder, will continue to serve the residents of Portage County during the COVID-19 pandemic with some service modifications. While the office has been adhering to the COVID-19 recommendations that were already put in place by the CDC, the resolution passed by the Portage County Board of Commissioners requires the Recorder to implement new procedures.
The Resolution will lock the doors of the Administration Building and limits access to the public. Due to this resolution Lori Calcei, Portage County Recorder, has implemented the following changes starting Wednesday, March 25th.
The Recorder’s office will be open from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM each day. This will allow access to the records room and the opportunity to drop off documents that need to be recorded. Persons who need access to the records room or need to have a document recorded will need to contact the Recorder’s Office at (330) 297-3553 to gain access to the building. The Recorder will limit the number of people allowed in the records room. Employees will be able to provide limited assistance, due to social distancing.
Documents that need recorded, but that do not require land transfer, are to be placed in a drop off box in the Recorder’s Office. Documents for the transfer of land title will also need to be placed in the drop off box. The Recorder’s Office, the Tax Map Department and the Auditor’s Office will work together to put each document through the steps that are required to transfer the property. Each document dropped off shall be placed in an envelope with specific instructions, payments for the recording and conveyance fees (two check required), the conveyance form, CAV form (if needed) and contact information (phone number). So that we may return the original document, please include a stamped addressed return envelope or arrange for document pick up between 8:30 AM and 12:30PM.
To record a plat the needs Portage County Regional Planning Commission (330-297-3613) or the Tax Map Department (330-297-3598) approval please contact those departments to set up an appointment. They will be open from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM by appointment only.
If you do not need to appear in person, Recorder Lori Calcei suggest that you mail in your documents that need recorded.
