The County Auditor has completed work on the 2018 reappraisal of all real property in Portage County. Countywide reappraisals are required by law to be performed once every six years, with a triennial valuation update performed halfway through this period. Portage County's last full reappraisal took place in 2012 and the last triennial update took place in 2015.The purpose of the appraisal cycle is to establish fair market valuations that reflect economic and market conditions as it relates to a given property as of January 1st of the tax year being valued. This is done by reviewing sales data from the preceding 2-3 years as well as performing actual field visits to verify and update any changes in the property since the last reappraisal. The proposed 2018 values may be viewed on our public search site by clicking here. An informal review period for the 2018 countywide reappraisal was conducted from mid-September thru early October and has now ended. Taxpayers who still wish to contest the value of their property may do so by filing a formal appeal with the Board of Revision anytime between January 2nd and March 31st 2019. Application forms for Board of Revision appeals are available in the Auditor's Office and can also be accessed here.
