Storm Water Program Table of Organization

Since its formation in 1947 the Portage Soil & Water Conservation District has been active in many phases of resource conservation and the promotion of wise land use. 

The District provides consultive and technical, as well as, planning assistance to the agricultural and urban areas of the county.  The District is geared to work through individuals, groups, or governmental units in solving soil and water management problems.  Technical assistance is provided in planning, design, and installations of measures for erosion and sediment control, recreation, pollution abatement, water and land management for wildlife and livestock, and consultive service

The District operates with funds provided by the County Commissioners.  These funds are matched by the division Soil & Water Districts, ODNR.  Money is also provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for office space and equipment.  

The administration of the District programs is the responsibility of a five member board of elected supervisors.  The District also helps with special activities to promote wise land use, such as the following:
