The mission of the Portage County Medical Reserve Corps is to assist local response efforts during a public health emergency or large-scale event. Through a coordinated Volunteer Reception Center, health professionals (licensed and non-licensed) and community volunteers will come together to assist the Portage County Health Department with various assigned tasks. Together we can all make a difference. |

At the end of the December 2012 there were 207,150 volunteers
enrolled in 980 MRC
units in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, Palau, American Samoa,
Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States
of Micronesia, and Puerto Rico
Who is eligible to join the MRC? |

The Medical Reserve Corps is comprised of local health professionals (licensed and non-licensed) and community volunteers who are able to assist their community during the time of a public health emergency. MRC volunteers may be asked to assist in various capacities, including community education and at mass dispensing clinics and shelters, depending on the need.

Can only medical professionals join the MRC? |

No. The MRC is the volunteer corps for all people interested in serving during a community event or local emergency response. People of all skill sets are valuable to the Portage County Medical Reserve Corps. Health professionals include, physicians and physicians assistants, RN’s, psychologists/psychiatrists, pharmacists, social workers, clinical counselors, dentists, health educators, veterinarians, and emergency medical service. Community volunteers include students, government officials and citizens.

How can I join the Portage County MRC? |
| Visit the Ohio Responds Website: http://ohioresponds.gov and click on the MRC logo at the bottom of the page. Then click on the link to “Register as a Volunteer on the Volunteer Registry”. Follow the directions given. Complete local on-line training requirements found on the Volunteer Training page on this site. |
