Volunteer Training

Volunteer Training Requirements for ALL volunteers:

  3 - Tier Volunteer System

 Tier 1 Volunteers (basic)

• Received approved application status by Ohio Responds
• Have provided documentation of completed MRC 101 Orientation and HIPAA training within 30 days of new registration.
• Has provided documentation of completed FEMA training IS-100b-Introduction to Incident Command System or other approved training such as professional licensure documentation .

• Received approved application status by Ohio Responds
• Have provided documentation of completed MRC 101 Orientation and HIPAA training
• Have provided documentation of completed Is-700a, IS- 100b, and IS-22
• Participation in a Unit activity

• Received approved application status by Ohio Responds
• Have provided documentation of completed MRC 101 Orientation and HIPAA training
• Have provided documentation of completed Is-700a, IS- 100b, and IS-22
• Have provided documentation of completed Psychological First Aid
• Documentation of 20 Volunteer Hours
• Demonstrates leadership qualities

  Training Instructions

Once you have submitted your MRC application at https://www.ohioresponds.odh.ohio.gov/volunteer/ and your application has been approved, you will need to complete the following for Basic volunteer training:

                       MRC 101 Orientation

                       HIPAA

You may complete these trainings online by following the links above or if you do not have computer access by scheduling an appointment with the MRC Coordinator at the Portage County Health Department. Upon completion of these courses, you will be directed to a brief post test, which you will complete and forward to the MRC Coordinator.

In addition you will also need to complete the following online course provided by FEMA:

IS-100b “ Introduction to the Incident Command System”

**Or another approved training, such as professional licensure**

Additional FEMA courses are recommended and would be required for volunteers who would like to reach Advanced and Team Leader status:

IS-100b “Introduction to the Incident Command System”

IS –700a “The National Incident Management System (NIMS)”

IS-22 “Are you Ready? A Guide to Personal Preparedness”

All of the FEMA courses are “self-study” and you are free to work at your own pace. Each course will take approximately 3 hours to complete, but you may start and stop as often as you would like. Upon completion of each course you will be required to take a test. You have the option to print out the test questions prior to beginning the course and fill in the answers as you go through each course. When you pass the final test, a certificate of completion will be emailed to you. Please forward this certificate to the MRC Coordinator.

Psychological First Aid

Documentation of the completion of all training courses (post tests, certificates, etc) must be submitted to the MRC Coordinator via email, fax or mail.
