Mission Statement

To provide residents of Portage County an effective system of support services which enhance the individual and family's ability to maintain or achieve economic self-support and strengthen family relationships and improve the quality of life.

The Portage County Department of Job and Family Services consisting of Family Employment and Support Services, Child Support Enforcement, and Public Children's Services, interacts between community-based social services agencies and other governmental agencies in helping needy children and their families, and adults over 60.  Child Health Services  a division of the Department of Job and Family Services, provides health services to those needing essentially well care. infants, children and adolescents from birth to 21. The Department of Job and Family Services through a work force of 150 people determines eligibility and provides services to the needy via the employment program, cash assistance, Food Stamps, Medicaid, paternity establishment, support enforcement, adult protective services, child protective services, Health Clinic and adoptions.  In providing these services, Portage County is the 13th busiest area of the total 88 Ohio Counties.
