The Office of the Portage County Coroner investigates deaths when a person dies suddenly or unexpectedly while in apparent good health, or when a death appears to be suspicious or unusual. In addition the Coroner’s Office investigates all accidents, suicides and homicides, and any child that dies who is two years of age or younger. All medical investigations are conducted by the coroner’s staff including the oversight of all autopsy services, which are performed by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office or the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
