The Portage County Auto Title Department is responsible for assisting the public over the counter and on the telephone. The department is also responsible for filing and recording liens on titles and issuing memorandum or duplicate titles on titled vehicles. It maintains titled vehicle records, notarizes title documents, conducts title searches and cancels liens that have been satisfied.
An Ohio physical inspection is required on vehicles with an out of state title. The information on the inspection form must match the out of state title. No inspection is required with a manufacturer's certificate of origin.
Most vehicles require an E-Check for the purchase of license plates and registration. For information on E-Check you must contact 1-800-CAR-TEST or your local license bureau. The Auto Title Department does not require E-Check to transfer a title.
